Major Star Trek Spoilers Confirmed

AICN is reporting that they have rumors of three major plot points for the Star Trek sequel that is currently filming. One was leaked yesterday, another was assumed but never officially verified and the last doesn't come as a surprise because of interviews with the writers over the last few years. TrekMovie later is saying these rumors have been confirmed through their sources. Consider this your SPOILER WARNING!

Spoiler 1
Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Khan Noonien Singh. Considering he isn't Latino like the orginial I would not be surprised if this is the same character with a new origin story and motivation. The set photos showed the character essentially winning a fight against the superior Vulcan strength of Spock indicated the potential super human characteristics of the character.

Spoiler 2
Leonard Nimoy is reprising his role as Spock Prime and apparently has "long and 'stately' robes." Nimoy had told CNN that "We're talking". Considering most of the studio filming has been completed, likely Nimoy has completed his work. With this casting, he has now surpassed William Shatner with most Trek feature films with 8 to Shatner's 7.

Spoiler 3
The Klingons return. This time as key part of the film, not such a few scenes that could be cut like in the first Abrams film. In the 2009 movie they Klingons where shown as holding Nero prisoner until his escape 25 years later. A kind of way to explain why he disappeared for the 25 years it took for Kirk to go from new born to near graduate of Starfleet Academy. Those scenes has been cut (but shown as extras on the DVD/Blu-ray release). Now it seems they either might make for a secondary problem for the Enterprise crew or possibly partners with Khan.

Over all this is the most new stuff we have learned about the film in months. Ironically probably all of it would have been given away in the very first trailer (probably not out till around Christmas) so while I doubt Abrams is happy with the leaks, the damage is small. How all these elements combine is the meat of the story and we remain completely in the dark about that. The costume pics are from Daily Mail and Trek Movie. About the only thing of note is the black shirts matches Cumberbatch's from the set fight. No idea what that means from a story perspective.

  1. Cumberbatch is Khan? I don't know whether it is good or bad... I hope they don't change his origin.

  3. OH NO !!! DID THEY HAVE TO REHASH KHAN ? NO ONE, BUT NO ONE CAN DO KHAN LIKE RICARDO DID HIM. THEY COULD'VE GONE WITH GARY MITCHELL, BUT NOW WE GET KHAN ? I WILL STILL SEE THE MOVIE, BUT I'M NOT EXCITED BY IT AT ALL.

  4. GAAARRYYY! Benedict Cumberbatch's Villain In 'Star Trek 2' Revealed?
    Encounter with galactic barrier
In 2265, he was a lieutenant commander assigned as the helmsman aboard the USS Enterprise, by request of Captain Kirk. That year, the Enterprise discovered the flight recorder of the SS Valiant, a vessel missing for almost two hundred years. Examining it, and exploring the Valiant's last known position, the Enterprise penetrated the galactic barrier, an event that proved disastrous for Mitchell, and nearly so for the rest of the crew.

  5. Gary Mitchell was at the Navigators post, not at the Helm. It was kelos who was the Helmsman.

  6. Oh, 1 more thing from anonymous in Texas. Gary Seven was the only character in the Star Trek lore who could resist Spock's nerve pinch and was placed in the brig briefly. Khan was never in the brig and Spock took one of his genetic brothers down with a pinch. Although, Gary Mitchell was in the brig--briefly. Mitchell could resist a phaser rifle at point blank range and it appears-Uhura stuns Mitchell with a hand phaser. Nice curve ball J.J... The name Harris appears in the "Ultimate Computer" and the name Harrison as one of the crew memebers on "Space Seed." I seee no connection to this John Harrison. Unless that Gene Roddneberry's great-granfather on his maternal side. If you want to spin a new story.
