Teaser Trailer for Star Trek Beyond

Here is the first teaser trailer for Star Trek Beyond. The trailer is also supposed to debut with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If this seems like a bit to early a release with zero fanfare, you are correct. According to Bleeding Cool, a leak of the German language version caused Paramount to release it now rather then waiting later in the week (with ET and the other Hollywood shows providing support). As it is the release is probably going to get drowned out in coverage for the tonight's premiere of The Force Awakens.

The teaser plays with Beastie Boys' Sabotage (a nod to the first film) to represent what is an action packed teaser with a high dose of humor. Action that includes the destruction of the Enterprise to a swarm of small ships that forces the evacuation of the crew to the surface of an alien planet. The initial impression is if your main complaint was the previous Star Trek films did not feel like Trek then you are going to remain disappointed. Not exactly a surprise when the director is Justin Lin, the man responsible for the Fast and Furious franchise. Paramount didn't hire an action movie director to not create an action movie after all. Time will tell if they were able to add Trek elements (beyond name drops and alien faces) in between the action beats. At the very least even if it isn't "Star Trek", it probably will be a highly entertaining film. 1. I agree with your analysis 100%. I'm worried that adding Justin Lin takes us even further in a direction that will turn Trek into a "feel good" science fiction for the scientifically illiterate. I'm happy to be wrong and that they won't let "what looks cool" trump "what's technically feasible." Otherwise we'll just end up with Pirates of the Caribbean and we won't even get the charms of Johnny Depp.

I and some trekkies put together an article about what Abrams has done with Trek and what we think he'll do to Star Wars. We finish with a poll to see if Star Wars will be better served by the Abrams/Disney combo or not. http://lancerkind.com/2015/12/15/star-trek-rebooted-now-its-star-wars/

    Give our poll a click.
    Cheers,
