Star Trek: Discovery Renewed for Season 3

Star Trek: Discovery has scored an early renewal for season 3. The renewal comes with a slight behind the scenes change as season two co-executive producer Michelle Paradise (The Originals) adds co-showrunner to responsibilities alongside current showrunner and co-exec producer Alex Kurtzman. “Michelle joined us midway through Season 2 and energized the room with her ferocious knowledge of Trek,” Kurtzman said in a statement. “Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the Trek legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I’m proud to say Michelle and I are officially running Star Trek: Discovery together.”

The number of episodes for the season was not revealed but its assumed it will be in the 13 episode ballpark, likely depending on budget and story needs. For comparison season 1 has 15 episodes while season two has 14. Filming is expected to start on July 8th at Pinewood Studios in Toronto, Canada. Chances are CBS All Access will take a "why fix what isn't broke" approach and the third season will premiere around mid-January 2020.
