Star Trek: Picard Trailer, Characters and Return of Two Series Characters

Saturday at the San Diego Comic Con was the day that Star Trek descended to reveal more details on Star Trek: Picard, Lower Decks, season 3 of Discovery, and Short Treaks season 2. The biggest bits of news came from Star Trek: Picard thanks to the below trailer. While the cast was on hand, they could only speak a little bit about their characters. The main bit of news:

- Picard's dog is officially named Number One
- Dr. Agnes Jurati (Alison Pill) is a researcher trying to figure out her place in the world
- Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd) is connected to Picard's past in an unspecified way
- Dahj (Isa Briones) is seeking Picard after experiencing a tragedy.
- Cristobal "Chris" Rio (Santiago Cabrera) is an ex-Starfleet officer.
- Other characters include Narek (Harry Treadaway) and Elnor (Evan Evagora)
- As seen in the trailer, Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and Data or B4 (Brent Spiner) return to reprise their roles for the series.
- Hugh the Borg (Jonathan Del Arco), Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Troi (Marina Sirtis) will also reprise their characters.

In previous interviews, Alex Kurtzman spoke about the show saying “Events began to unfold that conspire to take Picard back to the stars [and] because he’s no longer in Starfleet, he no longer carries the weight of that behind him. In some ways, it’s easier to be [a great man] when you’re a captain. But it’s an entirely different thing when you don’t have an army behind you. When you want to get something done and fight an injustice, how do you do that when you’re really only one man?”

Showrunner Michael Chabon said, “[Picard]’s a lot older and we’re not shying away from that at all – we’re dealing with a man who’s in a very different place in his life. You will not see a version that betrays the man we loved from Next Generation. We’re not doing that. But we wanted to put a character with that level of morality and leadership and who always does the right thing no matter how hard the circumstances…we wanted to put that to the test.”
