CBS Taps Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 To Fill Schedule Gap

Star Trek: Discovery season 1 will air on CBS (in USA) starting Thursday, September 21 at 10pm. The show did first 2 episodes on the network back in 2017 but the intent this time is all 15 episodes of the season.

Normally this is the time of year when new and returning shows would be set to start debuting for the fall season. Thanks to COVID, the fall season has been delayed significantly. In many cases to 2021 as most shows have not even begun to film. However TV waits for no virus and the networks have to fill their schedule with new content. Or at least new to those that don't use streaming services.

With that in mind, at least for September and October the various networks are relying on reality shows and previously streaming only shows to fill in the gap with a goal of new and returning shows potentially premiering in November. Personally I don't mind the delay as I have a quite extensive backlog of streaming shows to catch up on.
