Paramount Hires Duo for New Star Trek Movie

Deadline is reporting that Paramount has hired Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley to write, produce and direct a new Star Trek film. The film is described as "a completely new take on the Star Trek universe and not connected to any previous or current television series, movie or prior movie development projects."  The duo wrote Spider-Man:Homecoming and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

That is the extent of the reveal. No details on story, character, release date or anything else. Considering this will be the fifth or so stab at a Trek theatrical movie, it could be awhile before reaches budget point that Paramount is willing to commit to. It is not clear if this is a reboot of the franchise but it sure does sound like one. Trek universe is large, being an entire universe of exploration with around thousand years of unexplored timeline so it can easily be set in current continuity and be removed from the Trek we know. Time will tell what the plan is.
