The timing is likely to use the fourth season as a draw for international fans to join Paramount+ as it continues to roll out to countries around the world. The move is part of Viacom CBS' ongoing process of consolidating its intellectual property to the streaming service as it aligns the entire business to feed content to the service. They even fired previous Paramount Pictures president so could replace him with one that is television/streaming focused. Most Star Trek shows and movies have already left Netflix around the world (including the US) with Star Trek: Picard and Lower Decks likely to follow as soon as contracts allow it.
