Stargater Auditions for Scotty

Paul McGillion, formally Carson Beckett of Stargate: Atlantis, is reported to have auditioned for the role of Scotty in Star Trek XI. The 38 year old was born in Scotland and used a Scottish accent for Stargate for 3 seasons so he has the ability and built-in sci-fi fan base. Also Scotty was the oldest of the Enterprise crew, by about 10 years so he is in the perfect age range too.

Chris Doohan, son of James Doohan, wanted to role but also offers his support of Paul "I know that the chances that I would be the next Scotty are slim to none. That being said, I think Paul McGillion is a GREAT choice for the role of Scotty. He has a great accent and I think that he actually looks like my father. He would be a much better Scotty then McAvoy."

This report contradicts earlier and unconfirmed statements that James McAvoy was cast for the role. At this point, the sum total of what we know is Scotty is in the movie, his role hasn't been cast and Paul Mcgillion has auditioned for the role.
