Zachary Quinto Outs Himself

Yesterday Zachary Quinto has confirmed one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood. It turns out that he is gay. Apparently it is a big deal. The only reason posting it is because most news organizations are treating it like major news and since Quinto is Spock in the Abrams' Star Trek 2.0 universe; it makes it relevant to this particular blog. The "outing" was broken in a pretty offhand way by Quinto to New York Magazine.
His eight-month role in Angels was both “the most challenging thing I’ve ever done as an actor and the most rewarding” he says. Having to inhabit that terrible lost world, if only in his mind, took a toll. “And at the same time, as a gay man, it made me feel like there’s still so much work to be done, and there’s still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed.”
Quinto followed the public release of this news with a post on his official blog attributing the desire to confirm his sexual status as a direct result of the suicide of Jamey Rodemeyer, who killed himself because those around him couldn't handle that he was gay.

So congrats to Quinto? Not sure of the proper response to a piece of news that personally changes nothing. To others, hopefully the news will give them a little extra ray of hope to ignore the haters of the world. I just see it as IDIC (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations) in action.
