Star Trek Announces Series Release Dates, Renewals

For a nice change of pace, Paramount+ revealed most of their 2022 plans for Star Trek today instead of dong it in drips.  The Star Trek Universe of shows have multiple renewals and premiere dates aligned up for 2022.  Per usual, each show will premiere a new episode each Thursday morning. Currently the streaming channel has not announced plans to do entire season dumps for any Trek show.

- Star Trek: Prodigy - 1st season airing episodes 5-10 now with remaining 10 airing later in year (20 episodes total)
- Star Trek: Discovery - renewed for 5th season, 4th season returns February 10 (13 episodes total)
- Star Trek: Picard - 3rd season currently in production, 2nd season starts March 3 (10 episodes total)
- Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - renewed for 2nd season, 1st season starts May 5 (likely 10 episodes total)
- Star Trek: Lower Decks - renewed for 4th season, 3rd season starts summer 2022 (10 episodes total)

I suspect that Lower Decks will start up in July after Strange New Worlds completes it run. As for Prodigy I am bit confused by the indication of a 20 episode season 1.  I am guessing that is actually season 2 and to save on production costs both seasons were ordered at the same time.  This is just speculation but back half of 2022 could be July to mid-September is Lower Decks, probably a month or so hiatus and then Prodigy and Discovery doing half season runs to close out the year.

  1. Regarding Prodigy: it was announced a while back that season 1 was getting 10 additional episodes (so 20 in total) and those 10 would be aired late 2022. That same announcement also mentioned that besides those 10 additional episodes, a 2nd season was ordered.
