SDCC 2026 Panel Brings SNW Season 4 Sneak Peak

Saturday Star Trek held its 60th anniversary Hall H panel (below) with about 30 minutes devoted to Trek alumni and then the last half devoted to Star Trek upcoming shows including Strange New Worlds. The alumni panel included George Takei (TOS), Michael Dorn (TNG, DS9), Robert Picardo (VOY, PRO, SFA), Cirroc Lofton (DS9), Dominic Keating (ENT), Doug Jones (DSC), Michelle Hurd (PIC), Jerry O’Connell (LDS), Christina Chong (SNW) and Karim Diané (SFA). The SNWs portion had  the main bridge crew with Anson Mount (Pike), Rebecca Romijn (Una Chin-Riley), Ethan Peck (Spock), Christina Chong (La’an Noonien-Singh), Celia Rose Gooding (Uhura), Melissa Navia (Ortegas) and Paul Wesley (James T. Kirk) along with executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers and Alex Kurtzman.

As part of the panel they released an interestingly edited video celebrating 60 years of Trek. They also provided a sneak peak vide of the upcoming season 4 of Strange New Worlds where the first episode is now available on Paramount+. Both are below. 

On the news front, they revealed a new Star Trek: Starfleet Academy cast member "Ruaridh Aldington joins season 2 of Starfleet Academy as a series regular playing Keats, a young alien our cadets encounter on an away mission who possesses a mysterious backstory. When the cadets make the risky decision to bring him back to Starfleet Academy, they realize he’s a wanted man, and his life is in danger.” They also revealed that Star Trek Scouts, a series for pre-schoolers, will have its second season 2 premiere on September 8. The 30 episode season of 3 minute length vids was likely ordered with the first so this will probably be its final season due to Paramount ending Trek productions for the foreseeable future.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 Premiere Now Available

The first episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 is now available on Paramount+. A new episode will premiere each Thursday on the streaming service. The first episode called "Valles Marineris". Below is a clip from the episode which is not a western but just the opening scene of the season and really doesn't have anything to do with the rest of the episode. This episode will probably be called the one with dinosaurs.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 Official Trailer

Here is the new trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4. The 10 episode season begins its run on July 23 with new episodes released weekly until September 24. The already filmed final season does not yet have a date for its six episode run but at this time its assumed to be in 2027. 

That and the final season of Starfleet Academy will bring this ten year run of Trek to a close for at least the rest of this decade as the merged Paramount/WB will have different priorities due to estimated $79 billion in debt the company will have to pay monthly interest on when their summed value is currently around $80 billion.

Strange New Worlds Season 4 Debut Date, Teaser Trailer

Over the weekend, the CCXP (Comic Con Experience) was held in Mexico City, Mexico. As part of that Paramount+ revealed that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 will premiere on July 23. The 10 episode season will then have new episodes weekly to September 24. As part of that Ethan Peck, Rebecca Romijn, Celia Rose Gooding and Paul Wesley were on hand to introduce the teaser trailer for the season. From the press release:

In season four of the Paramount+ original series, the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise — led by Captain Christopher Pike — embark on a series of thrilling and emotional adventures across the stars. As they journey to strange new worlds, they will battle inner demons and external threats, encounter colorful new characters, reunite with familiar faces and confront terrifying aliens. Through it all, they strive to embrace a bright, hopeful future.

The show has already filmed its fifth and final season of six episodes that all signs indicate will likely conclude this era of Star Trek for the foreseeable future in 2027 as Paramount and WB spend years dealing with their mega-merger and the fall out from that.

Strange New Worlds Casts McCoy and Sulu

Production for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is complete but seems the final season may have some fun with the transition to TOS crew in the final episode. Veteran actor Thomas Jane (The Expanse) has been cast as Bones while rookie actor Kai Murakami will play Sulu. 

The extent of the roles were not specified but the series showrunner have said they had planned to end the series by handing the bridge off to Kirk so makes sense to include other members of the bridge crew. As for Chekov, he didn't join the series until season 2. They might figure out a way to include him or just not since continuity wise no reason to. No reason date yet for season 4 or 5 of the series.

Strange New Worlds Season 3 Home Video Available Now

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' season 3 is now available for digital purchase on most platforms. Or if prefer physical copies, the season will be released on March 3 in the US in the usual formats including a special edition Steelbook. Watch Strange New Worlds Murder Mystery Full Episode for Free

Paramount has made the season 3, episode 4 episode called "A Space Adventure Hour" available for free on YouTube, Pluto TV, Roku and on Paramount+. The episode makes use of the now classic holodeck style episode that The Next Generation first created. Don't worry, the pre-TNG holodeck is explained and important part of the main plot which in this case is a 1969 murder mystery with the cast playing different suspects and clearly having a ball doing it. The setting makes it a perfect fit for Jonathan Frakes, TNG's Riker, to direct the episode. It was a fun episode and highly recommend giving it a viewing.

SDCC 2025 Reveals Starfleet Academy, Khan, and Puppet SNW Teasers

Today the panel for Star Trek was held at the San Diego Comic-Con 2025. As part of it, new teaser trailers were released. The first one is for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy that has an approximate release date of early 2026. An overview of the cadets is here.

Next is a teaser for Star Trek: Khan audio series. Initially planned as a TV miniseries, unknown behind the scenes difficulties reduced it to an audio series. The story is based on script from long time Star Trek book writers Kirsten Beyer and David Mack. The audio series will follow Khan as he and his people survive on Ceti Alpha V as the planet's environment rapidly changes for the worse. The audio series will premiere on September 8th on carious podcast platforms. Voice cast includes George Takei as Captain Sulu, Tim Russ as Ensign Tuvok, Naveen Andrews (Lost) as Khan, Wrenn Schmidt (For All Mankind) as Lt. Maria McGivers and more.

The last teaser is for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 genre bending episode of a puppet episode involving a transporter accident using puppets built by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. As for season three's deep dive into another genre, that will be coming out next week for a classic Agatha Christie type murder mystery in an episode called "A Space Adventure Hour."

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Premieres

Friendly reminder that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 has its first 2 episodes, 10 total for the season, out now on Paramount+. Season 4 is almost completed production and will move immediately into filming the final episodes of the series for season five where according to series executive producer Akiva Goldsman, "we’ll try to get right up to Kirk’s first day of command". Strange New Worlds Renewed for Final Season

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for a shortened fifth and final season with 6 episodes. Season three begins streaming on July 17. Season four is currently filming and probably five will start right after that for release dates aiming for mid 2026 and 2027.

New Trailer for Strange New Worlds Season 3

Paramount+ has released a new trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 that will debut its first two episodes on the streaming service starting July 17. The season opener will resolve the cliffhanger involving the Gorn while some episodes will involve a murder mystery, a romantic comedy, and documentary-style episodes as the series continues to stretch the boundaries of what a Star Trek series can do.

Strange New Worlds Release Date Set for July 17

Paramount+ has revealed that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 will debut with two episodes on Thursday, July 17. It will then have weekly episodes to the season finale on September 11. The show is currently in production on the fourth season. Below is the synopsis for the season and poster.

In season three, when we reconnect with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, still under the command of Captain Pike, they face the conclusion of season two’s harrowing encounter with the Gorn. But new life and civilizations await, including a villain that will test our characters’ grit and resolve. An exciting twist on classic Star Trek, season three takes characters both new and beloved to new heights, and dives into thrilling adventures of faith, duty, romance, comedy, and mystery, with varying genres never before seen on any other Star Trek.

 

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Teaser Trailer

Paramount+ has released the first teaser for season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The 10 episode season is set to be release this summer but not specific date was provided.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 Begins Production

Paramount has revealed that production has officially begun on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4. The news comes with an on set picture of Anson Mount, Ethan Peck and Celia Rose Gooding in their character costumes. Season 3 does not have a release date but the assumption is it coming before the end of the year. My guess is around middle of the year.

NYCC Star Trek News: Renewal, Casting, Release Date and Clips

This weekend the New York Comic-Con (NYCC) was held. On Saturday, Star Trek held their panel where the presented updates on the various projects including a release date for Section 31, Starfleet Academy casting and clips from Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

The show has already scored a season 2 renewal from Paramount+. Emmy Award winner Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black, She-Hulk), has been cast as a reoccurring special guest star in Season 1. No other details were provided about her character. The series is currently in production in Canada with an estimated release date of late 2025. 

Star Trek: Section 31

The movie starring Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh now has a release date of January 24, 2025. The movie has completed production and likely finishing up post-production. A bunch of posters with the cast was released, you can find them here. The initial plan from around 2019 was a TV series but plans kept falling through until the now very demand actress indicated she could do a movie. The leads briefly discuss their characters with Collider while avoiding spoilers.

Star Trek: Lower Decks

Below is a clip from Lower Deck's fifth and final season that will premiere this upcoming Thursday, October 24 with two episodes. Further below is also a new poster for the season, based on the teaser poster for Star Trek 5.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Also below is a CGI heavy action click from Strange New Worlds season 3. The clip is likely the opening scene of the season as the Enterprise is under attack from the large Gorn ship that concluded the previous season in cliffhanger fashion. In casting news, comedian Rhys Darby (Jumanji: The Next Level) will guest star, with his character described as "familiar yet completely new to folks that know Star Trek."

Paramount+ has posted the full video of the panel held on Saturday for Star Trek Universe where cast members from the currently airing shows talked about previous season, next season, and revealed some future plans as summarized yesterday.

SDCC Brings New Show, Trek Alumni Casting, Teasers, and Clip

Saturday the San Diego ComicCon 2024 panels were held for Star Trek. With the panels news about upcoming Star Trek shows including a new one that is still in early planning stages. Lets get right to it. 

Star Trek: Untitled Comedy - A potential new series is in very early planning stages, basically pre-pre-production live action comedy described as "Federation outsiders serving a gleaming resort planet find out their day-to-day exploits are being broadcast to the entire quadrant." Risa is Trek's go to resort planet but it wasn't specifically mentioned. The show is being developed by Justin Simien (The Haunted Mansion) and Tawny Newsome (writer, voice of Mariner on Lower Decks).

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy - Four previous Star Trek actors are joining the series that is set to start filming soon in Canada. Tig Notaro (Jett Reno), Oded Fehr (Admiral Vance) and Mary Wiseman (Sylvia Tilly) will reprise their Star Trek: Discovery roles. In a bit of a shock, Robert Picardo will reprise his role from Star Trek: Voyager role as hologram The Doctor, a role he recently voiced for season 2 of Star Trek: Prodigy (on Netflix, really should watch show regardless of age, be patient as worth it.)

Star Trek: Lower Decks - set to premiere its fifth and final season on October 24 on Paramount+ with two episodes and remaining 8 each week after for series finale on December 19. Show has been ended too soon but what can you do. Below is season synopsis and teaser trailer done in the style of the first trailer for Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

In season five of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with closing “space potholes” – subspace rifts which are causing chaos in the Alpha Quadrant. Pothole duty would be easy for Jr. Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford…if they didn’t also have to deal with an Orion war, furious Klingons, diplomatic catastrophes, murder mysteries and scariest of all: their own career aspirations. This upcoming season on Paramount+ is a celebration of this underdog crew who are dangerously close to being promoted out of the lower decks and into strange new Starfleet roles.

Star Trek: Section 31 - The Michelle Yeoh starring movie got its first teaser trailer (below). No release date yet but aiming for an early 2025 release on Paramount+.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Here is first look at season 3 of the show via a clip that creates a rather interesting and increasingly annoying situation for Spock to deal with. Cillian O'Sullivan (Then You Run) as been cast to play Dr. Roger Korby, future ex-fiancé to nurse Chapel (from Original Series episode nine). An episode will be like "a Hollywood murder mystery" and the show may not be done with musicals. No airdate is set but I suspect mid to late 2025.

Strange New Worlds Renewed, Lower Decks Cancelled

Paramount+ has announced that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for a fourth season. Currently season three is in production with plan to debut in 2025. 

However, with the good news comes that bad. Star Trek: Lower Decks has been cancelled after the upcoming fifth and now final season that is set to debut sometime in the fall later this year.

Below is a video from StarTrek.com that looks back at Star Trek from 2023. The year was chock full with final, celebrated season of Star Trek: Picard, mini episodes honoring the anniversary of Star Trek: The Animated Series with Very Short Treks, Star Trek: Prodigy being rescued by Netflix, Lower Decks great season and the creative season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds complete with musical episode. 2024 should be just as interesting with final season of Star Trek: Discovery and season two of Prodigy with possiblities of the next seasons of Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks and Section 31 premiering.
