Grace Lee Whitney died this weekend at the age of 85. The actress is most known for playing Yeoman Janice Rand in the first 8 episodes of of Star Trek: The Original Series but forced off the show due to her then drug and alcohol addiction. With help from Leonard Nimoy the actress was able to get back on the road to sobriety. Later she returned to Star Trek for Star Trek movies 1, 3, 4, and 6 along with flashback episodes for Star Trek: Voyager. She was also a mainstay on the Star Trek convention circuit including last year in Las Vegas. Her other credits include guest appearances on multiple shows in the 60s and 70s. Her autobiography "The Longest Trek: My Tour of the Galaxy" chronicled her life's up and downs. The actress spent her final years with her family and grandchildren and would prefer to be remembered as a "successful survivor of addiction" with 35 years of sobriety.
