Star Trek: Discovery Fourth Season Delayed for International Viewers

In the US, Star Trek: Discovery is about to have its fourth season premiere but sadly for international fans they will now have to wait until next year to see it. In preparation for international viewers, the show has left international versions of Netflix as of today. The season was supposed to debut on non-US Netflix this Thursday but Paramount+ buyout of the Netflix contract means this will delay the premiere of the season at some point in early 2022.  This change does not impact United States nor Canadian viewers as the show will still premiere this Thursday on Paramount+ (US) and Sci-Fi Canada.

The timing is likely to use the fourth season as a draw for international fans to join Paramount+ as it continues to roll out to countries around the world. The move is part of Viacom CBS' ongoing process of consolidating its intellectual property to the streaming service as it aligns the entire business to feed content to the service. They even fired previous Paramount Pictures president so could replace him with one that is television/streaming focused.  Most Star Trek shows and movies have already left Netflix around the world (including the US) with Star Trek: Picard and Lower Decks likely to follow as soon as contracts allow it.
