Shatner Doesn't Do Cameos

William Shatner posted a video blog post (see below) answering a few questions regarding Star Trek XI.

"Is William Shatner in the New Star Trek movie?"
His answer is he has no input on Star Trek, and the interviewer says he has a cameo role (say what?) but Shatner "doesn't do cameos." He has not been offered or even suggested a role in the movie. "Can't imagine" what he would do with a cameo.

"Is he disappointed?"
He hasn't seen the script but yes he is disappointed. Its pointed out he is dead but he replies "its science fiction....[death] isn't a problem."

The official answer is currently no but JJ Abrams and the writers have said are trying to fit him in. Now remember in Star Trek canon, James T. Kirk is dead but Spock (thanks to Vulcan 200+ years lifespan) continues to Trek, last seen in Star Trek: The Next Generation working towards reunification with Vulcans and Romulans. If the rumored plot of Romulans going back in time to kill Kirk before he became captain of the Enterprise, Spock is in the best position to do something about it. Kirk, being dead and all, isn't. I would love to see William Shatner slip on the uniform and the role one more time, but really it needs to be handled well (and better then Generations). If the writers can come up with a solution, more power to them. (source)
