In this week's Entertainment Weekly, Ricky Gervais (The Office, Extras, Ghost Town) mentioned that he was offered a cameo role in Star Trek. He said that Abrams approached him but he turned it down saying "I was never a big fan, so I would've felt guilty taking the part just to be in a blockbuster. To what? Boost my profile?" No mention of what the role may have been.
