Star Trek Beyond Completes Vancouver Filming

Star Trek Beyond star and writer Simon Pegg tweeted "That's a wrap on the Vancouver leg of STB. Beautiful city, beautiful people. Live long and prosper. CF" along with the photo of a patch for the visual effects team. This represents a majority of the principle photography but on location filming in Dubai remains.

Star Trek Beyond Release Bumped Two Weeks

Paramount Pictures has announced that they have moved the release of Star Trek 3 to July 22, 2016. The two week move from the initial start date of July 8 is so the movie can get showtimes in IMAX theaters since the previous release dates were already contractually set for the live action Tarzan movie from Warner Bros. However, for the move to work it assumes that WB is planning on moving King Arthur from the July 22 release date as that movie is also already contractually bound for IMAX theaters. In short, if WB keeps the movie in place (and it would make for a strong counter programming against a Trek flick), the Trek move could turn out to be pointless. Worse the movie is moving to even more competitive waters as it went from competing about Tarzan, The Purge 3 and Ghostbusters to competing against Ghostbusters, Ice Age 4, King Arthur and Bourne 5. On the face of it, it seems like a really stupid move on Paramount's part for something that currently relies on a competitor's cooperation. It makes we wonder if they know something the rest of the industry doesn't.

Smithsonian Calling for Collector's to Help Restoring the Smithsonian

The Smithsonian is currently in the midst of a project to restore the original 11 foot model of the USS Enterprise that was in the show. The problem is the model has been modified 8 times as it was used for different purposes both during and after the series. As a result the Smithsonian is calling for collector's to assist with the restoration being performed by the conservators at the Emil Buehler Conservation Laboratory by providing reference material from their collections to restore the ship to it August 1967 appearance for the filming of the "The Trouble with Tribbles" when the model was tweaked the last time while the show was in production.

The next alteration to the ship model apparently occurred after 1976 so the goal is reference material from around 1967 to before 1976 where they can get a good solid look at the ship and how it looked it its final show configuration. As a result they are not asking for screenshots from the show or material that a google search could provide but those unique photos and other one of a kind reference material that collector's might have discovered over the years that few would even be aware exist. It might even be an old picture when the model was put on display at Huntington Beach in 1972 for Space Week. The idea is the more pictures they can find, the more details that can lead to an accurate as possible restoration. If you think you might have such useful material, the Smithsonian is asking you to reach out to them via email at StarshipEnterprise@si.edu. They are not asking collector's to donate those items but simply make them available as references during the restoration which they hope to complete in time for the shows 50th Anniversary when the model goes on display at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center's Milestones of Flight Hall in 2016.

Star Trek: The Next Generation Remaster on Netflix

If it has been awhile since you saw an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation and do not already own the Blu-ray season conversions, then this might be the time to give your Netflix subscription a workout as the HD remastered versions of the episodes are now streaming on the service which include additional bug fixes to a few episodes that fans noticed from the initial release. Sadly the sales did not meet CBS Entertainment's expectations so there are no plans for a Blu-ray or remaster release release of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or Star Trek: Voyager. Chances are that this will probably be the last real (not rumor) TV related news for the foreseeable future as CBS has made it clear that outside of licensing, they genuinely see zero future potential in the Star Trek franchise outside of Paramount's movies.
