NYCC Star Trek News: Renewal, Casting, Release Date and Clips

This weekend the New York Comic-Con (NYCC) was held. On Saturday, Star Trek held their panel where the presented updates on the various projects including a release date for Section 31, Starfleet Academy casting and clips from Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
The show has already scored a season 2 renewal from Paramount+. Emmy Award winner Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black, She-Hulk), has been cast as a reoccurring special guest star in Season 1. No other details were provided about her character. The series is currently in production in Canada with an estimated release date of late 2025. 

Star Trek: Section 31
The movie starring Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh now has a release date of January 24, 2025. The movie has completed production and likely finishing up post-production. A bunch of posters with the cast was released, you can find them here. The initial plan from around 2019 was a TV series but plans kept falling through until the now very demand actress indicated she could do a movie. The leads briefly discuss their characters with Collider while avoiding spoilers.

Star Trek: Lower Decks
Below is a clip from Lower Deck's fifth and final season that will premiere this upcoming Thursday, October 24 with two episodes. Further below is also a new poster for the season, based on the teaser poster for Star Trek 5.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Also below is a CGI heavy action click from Strange New Worlds season 3. The clip is likely the opening scene of the season as the Enterprise is under attack from the large Gorn ship that concluded the previous season in cliffhanger fashion. In casting news, comedian Rhys Darby (Jumanji: The Next Level) will guest star, with his character described as "familiar yet completely new to folks that know Star Trek."
