Star Trek Fan's Dying Wish Granted This Weekend

It seems JJ Abrams can act fast when it comes to meeting the request of a dying Star Trek fan's last wish. On Christmas Day, a plea was sent to grant Daniel's final wish of seeing at least the 9 minute preview of Star Trek Into Darkness. On Friday it was reported that JJ Abrams and Paramount agreed to hold a private screening of something related to the movie. Now the wife reports that the screening was held on Sunday, showing that Abrams and Paramount moved with remarkable haste. It should be noted that while all involved could have made this into some public relations press blitz, they chose to let their actions speak for themselves. Considering the effort that JJ Abrams has put into keeping every aspect of the film a secret (including the villain name for over a year), his willingness to screen an incomplete cut of the film and risk all those hard kept secrets should not be dismissed. The wife provided a statement on the what transpired.
Hi everyone, it’s Daniel’s wife, we are of course sworn to secrecy, BUT we are officially allowed to say we saw it and we enjoyed it IMMENSELY as a film and as a gesture…However; Daniel ‘hates’ being an ‘inspiring cancer story’ we his friends and loved ones would prefer for the update to have more of a heartfelt message of giving, especially during this season:

Star Trek: TNG Gag Reel

I love gag reels, especially the good ones that are just flat out funny and give the impression the cast and crew are just annoying themselves. Like this one for Star Trek: The Next Generation that is a special feature with the season 1 Blu-ray set. You can always tell when actors take themselves too seriously if there is a gag reel and for some reason you notice someone missing. Everyone makes mistakes, how they handle it gives insight to who they are as a person. Based on this reel, it seems the TNG cast was a group of people that enjoyed their work and each other. Personally I think all actors and shows be up to releasing gag reels. It is the best kind of public relations and does nothing but in-dear and actor to you more, not less.

JJ Abrams, Paramount To Grant Dying Wish

By the power of the internet, a final wish from a dying Star Trek fan just might get met by JJ Abrams. Three days ago a message (below) was posted on Reddit sharing the tragic fate of a friend who beat cancer once only to get another type that is killing him. The wish was to let him see either Star Trek Into Darkness or the very least the 9 minute preview that was shown in IMAX theaters with The Hobbit.
Hello Reddit. I've seen some amazingly kind and generous stuff happen on here. I'm hoping there's room for another amazing act of generosity and kindness for a friend of mine who is really sick. I couldn't begin to put into words what he has gone through.

Damon Lindelof on Writing Into Darkness

In a new interview with Collider, co-writer of Star Trek Into Darkness Damon Lindelof talked about writing the script for the movie, their approach to the sequel, impact of Vulcan's destruction and more. Below are a few highlights but the interview (with long answers for once) can be found here. No spoilers but still interesting to read about a writer's approach to the movie.

Highlights:
- The Enterprise set was more immersive since most of the sets were connected together for longer shots.
- Script writers on set for at least first month so could make script tweaks as ideas came up during filming.
- In spectrum of Trek knowledge the writers order seems to be Roberto Orci (expert including novels), Lindelof (mostly TOS, Next Gen), Kurtzman (some of all, mostly Next Gen) JJ Abrams (mostly TOS) and Brian Burke (no knowledge). Used the spectrum to test ideas and make sure the movie was approachable fo new and old Trek fans.

JJ Abrams Offered Chance At Star Wars, Turned It Down

Turns out that Empire's new issue has more then just some new photos and story plot points. It also revealed that Disney, new owner of Star Wars, spoke with the director to see if he was interested in directing Star Wars Episode VII. This was not to say he was going to do it, more then likely Disney is trying to firm up their short list of candidates. Abrams cited his loyalty to Star Trek as one of reasons he turned down the chance.
"I'm committed to three [Star Trek films]. That's the contract I signed. And as far as I know, everyone else is in the same situation. But there's obviously room for both Star Trek and Star Wars," he added. "We both have plenty of things to offer sci-fi. But I'm not saying any more that that! There are more than enough Star Wars stories around at the moment!"

"There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan, I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version of those things. I declined any involvement very early on. I'd rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them."

"I'm a huge fan of Star Wars, Empire and Jedi, and the idea of the world continuing is exciting and will be amazing. Kathy Kennedy is a friend and there are no smarter producers. It's in great hands."

New Star Trek Into Darkness Images

As a bit of a Christmas gift, Empire Magazine has posted the covers and images from their Feburary issue that will hit UK newsstands on December 27th. The cover story is Star Trek Into Darkness so we get a cool new image of Benedict Cumberbatch and the Enterprise crew (Pike is ex-Enterprise but still counts). The article contains a few story details so spoiler warnings.

Highlights:
- John Harrison is ex-Starfleet who attacks London and a US state who is privy to some of Starfleet's secrets that motivates his quest for revenge.
- Pine: "[Harrison] is Kirk’s shadow of death, his Achilles’ heel. He is just a big mirror reflecting all of Kirk’s insecurities back at him. He is just as intelligent and logical as Spock, but is also one very bad motherf—er."
- Cumberbatch: "He’s sort of superhuman, pretty much unbeatable. Brainy and brawny. He manipulates situations. He’s incarcerated when Kirk is talking to him and yet he still gets Kirk to do his work for him. He pushes him into a corner where the only route to salvation is cooperation. There is a real Hannibal Lecter quality to him."
- Kirk's attempt to capture Harrison is to fix a mistake that may cost him his captain's chair.
- Lots of new locations including Kirk's apartment (maybe the Pike, Kirk conversation)
- plot:
...with Earth under terrorist attack from Benedict Cumberbatch’s ex-Starfleet employee John Harrison, Kirk is this time forced into a rash decision that breaks a critical Starfleet command, puts his crew in danger & costs him his captain’s chair. Now out of uniform and dressed down in space civvies of black leather jackets and boots, our three heroes have separated from the Enterprise and headed off on a mission to try and rectify his mistake…

Chris Pine Talks Kirk and Cumberbatch

JJ Abrams and Benedict Cumberbatch were not the only ones to head to Tokyo to promote Star Trek Into Darkness. Chris Pine was also there and he spoke with GyaO about the growth of Captain Kirk and Cumberbatch's John Harrison character.
I’m different because I am five years older and hopefully a bit more mature and I have had many more experiences since the first film and you can only help that experiences to bear on the character you are portraying at the time. So Kirk is definitely different this time around.

The most difficult aspect of this film was firstly the fact that it was a very physical film so the action sequences are very hard and very long. And then I think too, the journey that my character goes through is a very difficult one and very painful to let myself go through those experiences that Kirk goes through during the course of the film

Benedict is a great actor and portraying a really complex and layered bad guy in this film. And I think that is what really sets him apart, especially from [2009's Star Trek] where Eric Bana did a great job playing our bad guy Nero. His kind of selling point was he was a really mean, brutal, physical bad guy and Benedict plays a guy who is just as physical and just as strong but who is real weapon is the fact that he is a master manipulator and is able to use the weaknesses of the crew to his advantage and against them. A psychological force to be reckoned with.

Cumberbatch, Abrams Talk Trek Bad Guy and Story

As part of a promotional swing to raise awareness of Star Trek Into Darkness, JJ Abrams and Benedict Cumberbatch went to Japan and participated in a few interviews. While the talk continued to have no spoilers, Cumberbatch talked about what movie characters helped inform the creation of John Harrison (film's big bad) while Abrams teased a few story details about Harrison being a member of Starfleet whose agenda includes attacks on London and the US. He also confirmed the lens flares will return.

Benedict Cumberbatch (video below):
JJ described the role in movie terms as a mixture of Hannibal Lector, Jack in the Shining and The Joker in Batman. There are sorts of levels to pitch in amongst quite a high bar as well to succeed in comparison to. It was a framework to understand this character before I saw the whole script.

Star Trek The Video Game Release Date Announced

Today NAMCO Bandai Games has announced that Star Trek: The Video Game will be released on April 23, 2013 for the PS3 and 360 with a digital download for the PC. The game is setup in the year between Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness and let players control Kirk and Spock on a third person shooter like environment again the lizard like Gorn. The entire Enterprise bridge crew will be in the game (just not necessarily playable) with the movie actors providing their voices. The game story is from Marianne Krawczyk (God of War) with movie co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Michael Giacchino, who does the score for both Trek movies, is also doing the music for the game.

“There are certain elements at the core of Star Trek – insurmountable odds, exploration, villains like the Gorn and heroes like Kirk and Spock,” said Carlson Choi, vice president of marketing and Namco Bandai Games America Inc. “Our goal is to pull gamers as deep into the Star Trek universe as possible and an integral part of that is the talent that make these characters their own."

Eve and Cumberbatch Discuss Star Trek Characters and Story

In an interview with IGN, Benedict Cumberbatch (playing John Harrison) and Alice Eve (Carol Marcus) discuss Star Trek Into Darkness. They talk about their characters, the movie's themes and filming the movie. No new story specifics were provided interesting to watch these two Trek novices discuss the movie.

Updated Star Trek Into Darkness Synopsis

Paramount has released a new synopsis for Star Trek Into Darkness. Most of it remains the same from the first version except for the middle section. Before it said "When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction." The new version is essentially the same but not nearly as awkwardly phrased.
In Summer 2013, director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

In the wake of a shocking act of terror from within their own organization, the crew of The Enterprise is called back home to Earth. In defiance of regulations and with a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads his crew on a manhunt to capture an unstoppable force of destruction and bring those responsible to justice.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
About the only "new" information is apparently the Enterprise is recalled to Earth after John Harrison's act of terror, probably after their mission on the red planet Niburu (part of the 9 minute preview).

IDW March 2013 Star Trek Comics

IDW Publishing has released their publishing plans for March 2013. Two comics and one trade are being released that month. The prequel to Star Trek Into Darkness continues with issue 3 that suggests it details Kirk's first meeting with Benedict Cumberbatch's bad buy but the details are so vague it is hard to tell. If you are interested in the books, just let your local comic book store know. For the full details of IDW's other books including GI Joe, TMNT, Transformers, Locke & Key and more click here.

Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser Trailer

Last week the "announcement trailer" was released for the teaser trailer released with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in theaters. Now the rest of us finally have a chance to see it on Apple Trailers. Since a lot of stuff flashes by quickly, TrekMovie has provided a detailed screenshot breakdown here.

If keep eye peeled can see that at the 1:07 a website is listed in a monitor next to Benedict Cumberbatch. The viral site, AreYouThe1701.com currently doesn't have any content but something to keep an eye on it interested in viral site used to advertise a movie. JJ Abrams has used viral sites for his movies for a while now but in execution most of them have been lame with only rare updates. Maybe this time will be different. (via MovieViral)

More from Trek Cast on Sequel's Big Bad

On the eve of the new Star Trek Into Darkness trailer, JJ Abrams and some of the cast of the film continue to talk about the big bad of the film as played by Benedict Cumberbatch. While he is being called John Harrison, few seem to believe that is the one and only name the character will have in the film.

At this point some thing the whole game is a bit silly since it impedes Abrams desire to make the film as open to non-Trek fans as possible. It is pretty much assumed he is playing a variation of Khan. A theory that I am inclined to stick with too if only when think like Hollywood (aka $$$), going with the villain even non-Trekkies know is worth more then one only the die hards might be familiar with. Pretty much Khan is only one that fits the bill. Below are the highlights and six videos from JJ Abrams, Benedict Cumberbatch (who doesn't actually deny Khan), Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto (who slips up with a Khan name drop in reference to Nero from 1st film) as they talk about the film.

Kurtzman, Orci Remain Coy on Star Trek Villain

In brief comments to TrekMovie, Star Trek Into Darkness writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci commented on the name of John Harrison for the movies big bad as played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Roberto Orci had indicated months ago that the character would be a familiar one to Trek fans but (so far) that does not seem to be the case. When asked if he had lied about that, he just said "We will have to wait and see."

Alex Kurtzman said, "Well without revealing too much what I can tell you is that in the same spirit as "can the Enterprise be under water? What does that mean? How are we going to justify this? How are we going to explain it?" We went back and we talked a lot about things that made us want to make the first movie in the first place as fans. And what do we feel was successful for the fans. A lot of that had to do with honoring the history — honoring the show. But we also want to come up with a way to make the stories feel fresh and unpredictable. So without revealing too much, we applied the same thinking to Harrison."

Long story short, it seems my alias theory remains alive. The name is probably used in the movie but I think its the name used to infiltrate Starfleet, not the actual name of the character that will learned as the Enterprise crew attempts to stop whatever his master plan is.

Eight Spoilers from Star Trek Into Darkness

Monday Paramount Pictures held a press event at Bad Robot's Headquarters in Santa Monica, California. On hand was JJ Abrams and a few cast members from Star Trek Into Darkness. The event was to help promote the teaser trailer (most screenings) and 9 minute preview (IMAX 3D only) that is coming out on December 14th with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. One of the spoilers was already revealed when Paramount revealed that the name of Benedict Cumberbatch's character is John Harrison. TrekMovie reveals 7 other spoilers including character names, locations and a few story tidbits.

1) Alice Eve is Carol Marcus
The beautiful short haired blonde in the teaser of the teaser is Lieutenant Carol Marcus. In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the character was a civilian scientist working on instantly terraforming planets and was the ex-girlfriend of Kirk in his Starfleet Academy days from which she has his son. In the movie she is a member of Starfleet and probably does not have a previous relationship (or son) with Kirk until getting on board the Enterprise.

Star Trek Into Darkness Big Bad Gets A Name

Paramount Pictures has finally provided a name for Benedict Cumberbatch's big character in Star Trek Into Darkness. The name is John Harrison, who in the screenshot appears to be in the Enterprise brig while wearing a black shirt with the Starfleet logo. According to Memory Alpha, Harrison was a crew member that appeared in several episodes of The Original Series including being a near victim of Khan during his attempt to take over the ship in the classic episode "Space Seed." Really it was the same actor playing a variety of background crew characters depending on need of the scenes. This seems to be a third Khan related referenced already but in all cases without context so while tempting to read to much into it, just as likely Abrams and the writers are having a little fun with fans.

End result is while Cumberbatch's big bad has A name, it is not THE name of the character. I think its just an alias for his infiltration of Starfleet. The main reason think this is I don't see JJ Abrams going through all this trouble to hide the character's name only to have it intentionally leaked by Paramount. Also the bag guy is supposed to be familiar to long time Trek fans and Harrison does not fall under that. Finally, Harrison is a normal human in TOS. In the trailer Cumberbatch demonstrates superhuman strength which means he is either Khan or a surgically altered alien (Vulcan, Klingon, etc.). As usual time will tell but based on reports of the upcoming teaser trailer and 9 minute preview, it will not be anytime soon as neither provide any answers.

Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser Trailer and 9 Minutes First Impresions

This weekend Paramount press only screenings of the Star Trek Into Darkness teaser trailer and first nine minutes of the movie that is premiering on December 14th with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The teaser will be for most of the non-IMAX showings of the film and be posted online on the 17th. The 9-minute prologue is specifically for IMAX 3D showings of The Hobbit and currently no plans to post it online.

The teaser trailer is an extended version of the teaser of the teaser that premiered last week. A few details were revealed so spoiler warning. The trailer opens with Christopher Pike voice over telling Kirk that while he has courage, his lack of humility could get the crew killed. The scene from the Japanese trailer that suggests a Wrath of Khan moment sturns out to be between Spock and Benedict Cumberbatch's character giving rise to the suggestion that he might by Sybock, Spock's brother but with changes to appear human. There is space combat, someone does an EVA outside a ship that isn't the Enterprise, and Chekov gets an appearance in a red instead of gold tunic.

Restore The Enterprise Bridge Kickstarter Nears End

The Kickstarter project to restore the Enterprise-D bridge from around the time of the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas (so circa 2003) is nearing its final days. I already posted about the goal but what started as a kind of grass roots effort at Newstarship.com got a new life from Kickstarter. The project already achieved its $20,000 goal but in a new post project mastermind Huston Huddleston, he makes the case for reaching $40,000. The goal is to restore the trashed set as a traveling education set with real working LCARS monitors and other built in electronics to make it seem like a working bridge. Click here to read the details and here for the Kickstarter page, worth checking out if only for all the celebs and other details the description has on the project and the support it has received.

Star Trek: Federation Book Review

TrekMovie.com has posted a book review and video unboxing (below) for Star Trek: Federation - The First 150 Years that was recently released. The 176 page "history book" details the major events like First Contact, Romulan War, etc.) that led to the founding of the Federation and the next 150 years of its history (so around Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country). The detailed book has a nice electronic display with introduction from Admiral Hikaru Sulu (George Takai) and includes various "artifacts" from that era of Star Trek history. Based on their review, it is a good buy for long time Trek fans who have a running continuity of the Trek universe in their head. For casual fans, they probably would not get nearly as much out of the book. Their full review can be found here. The retail price is $100 but Amazon has it on sale for $60.

Alice Eve on STID Script, Abrams, Cumberbatch

In a brief interview with Digital Spy, new Enterprise crew member Alice Eve comments on the Star Trek Into Darkness script, director JJ Abrams and Benedict Cumberbatch. No spoilers revealed so still no clues on what her character is.
"The legacy aside, the reality of the experience was a great pleasure," Eve said. "It was special in every way, because the people who make the movie and are in the movie are all so impressive.

"The whole script is immaculately written - I read it in one sitting, and I just had the film in my head. It's that articulate and specific and imaginative."

On Abrams, she enthused: "He's a very intelligent, talented and determined man. Being around him is inspiring, and he engages you - you want to do your best for him, and tell his story in the way that he wants it told."

"On Starter For Ten, the scenes I had with Benedict, I was really incapable of keeping a straight face," Eve admitted. "He was just so funny, so it was a different experience working with him again. Less comedic!"

Star Trek Into Darkness 9-Minute Preview Theater List

Paramount has updated StarTrekMovie.com with the full list of IMAX theaters worldwide that will have the first nine-minutes of the film to preview with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey starting on December 14th. The ratio isn't quite 1:1 so don't assume that just because its IMAX, it will have the preview. Check the list just to make sure. Click here for easy look-up by state or province or check the long list at Bleeding Cool.

Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser of the Teaser Trailer

Here it is, the first official look at Star Trek Into Darkness that will be released on May 17, 2013. This is essentially a teaser trailer (but with unique scenes) of the upcoming teaser trailer that is being released in theaters on December 14th with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (along with the 9 minute preview for IMAX 3D showings). ComingSoon reports next week's trailer will come in at 1:50 compared to 1:03 for the "Announcement Trailer" below. You can also find it at Apple Trailers. After that is the Japanese version of the trailer that has a few seconds of additional scenes with different music cue at the end (:56 point) and a moment that seems designed to intentionally echo Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The actual teaser trailer will appear online on December 17th, hopefully around midnight PST like this one did.

Star Trek: Vengeance As Alternate Title?

TrekMovie is reporting that Paramount tested the title "Star Trek: Vengeance" as one of several alternate titles for Star Trek Into Darkness. The info comes from the Russian version of the just released Star Trek poster that when translated means "Vengeance". Oddly it seems the title will stick in the Russian market but no where else.

A shame considering it is a better title despite the dreaded colon that the Abrams and company were desperate to move away from in their quest to copy The Dark Knight movies. Considering the plot synopsis, the title doesn't seem like a reach. It also indicates the power of JJ Abrams as I am willing to bet the Paramount marketing department would much prefer to create the marketing campaign for the more powerful sounding "Star Trek: Vengeance" then the more 'huh?' title of "Star Trek Into Darkness". I guess Paramount could change their minds but unlikely with the official trailer coming next week.

Star Trek: TNG Season Three Blu-ray Trailer

Sure Star Trek: The Next Generation Season Two on Blu-ray just came out but that doesn't mean it isn't too soon to start thinking about season three. Below is a trailer to promote its 2013 release, likely in early spring based on currently release schedule of three seasons next year.

Stewart, Frakes Talk TNG S2 Release

The 2nd season of Star Trek: The Next Generation was just released on Blu-ray. To help promote the release Patrick Stewart spoke with EW about the season and reuniting with the cast while Jonathon Frakes floated the idea of TNG cast members appearing in Star Trek 3. Segments below.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: When you think about the episode “The Measure of a Man,” what first comes to mind?
PATRICK STEWART: Well, indeed, we were all very proud of that episode, because it dealt with issues in present society that we all felt were still current and important — the definition of what is humanity and if you can write off a whole race as being a subservient, second class beings. I do remember feeling when that episode came out that we were going right to the heart of the fundamentals of the Star Trek philosophy and what Gene Roddenberry had been writing about in different ways from the mid ’60s.

A Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer Coming Thursday

TrekMovie has learned that Paramount is planning to release two trailers instead of one for Star Trek Into Darkness. Initially the teaser trailer would be attached to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on December 14th. Now a second trailer will debut online much sooner on Thursday December 6. A kind of teaser trailer for the teaser trailer so to speak. However TrekMovie reports that it will have scenes that will not be repeated in the longer two minute version coming on the 14th. Speaking of the 14th trailer, it will officially debut online after the first weekend of release instead of before. While Paramount has not officially confirmed the story, Simon Pegg's twitter account seems to have when he wrote "Star Trek Into Darkness trailer. Premieres online, this Thursday. Get ready to boldly go again."

So to sum:
Teaser Trailer Teaser - out December 6th, online, no exact time or location yet, about 1 minute long (estimated)
Official Teaser Trailer - out on December 14th with The Hobbit, two minutes long, online that Sunday or Monday (estimated)

Abrams and Company Promote Star Trek in Toyko

While it seems a bit early, JJ Abrams, Chris Pine, and Benedict Cumberbatch were in Tokyo this week to promote Star Trek Into Darkness to the Tokyo Press. While the event was spoiler free, the translations provided by TrekMovie from Japanese sites Cinematoday, CinemaCafe, and EIGA did have them commenting on the films bad guy, the title and more.
Cumberbatch: (on his character) "He is very ruthless…He is not a clearly good or evil character. He is a villain but the actions he takes has intent and reason. ...He is a complicated character not to be judged by white-or-black, or good-or-evil. But this is the appeal of J.J.’s works and I felt challenge as an actor."

Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 2 Blu-ray Out Now

Just a reminder that Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 2 Blu-ray is now on sale. Currently Amazon has it priced at $64.99, the cheapest I have seen so far. Pretty much if enjoyed the first set, you will like this one more as the show continued to improve each season. Highlights this season include an extended edition of The Measure of a Man and lots of new documentaries.

A positive review of the set can be found here but there is also a negative one (here) that slams the outsourced work of HTV Illuminate that apparently screwed up some (but not all) of the remastered special effects. Also TrekMovie has has a review of the theatrical sneak peak from last week to promote the release. Below is a teaser of the gag reel that is part of the set.

Quinto on Conan with New "Clip"

Zachary Quinto was on Conan Monday night and while there he followed in the footsteps of JJ Abrams by revealing...absolutely nothing about Star Trek Into Darkness. Instead it was a short gag with Quinto in bad Spock ears in front of a green screen. Hopefully some goodies to get excited about will be revealed next Friday with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Since it is Conan, what starts as groan becomes amusing. The bit is below.

1st Star Trek Into Darkness Poster

The first Star Trek Into Darkness poster has been released. The poster depicts the film's big bad played by Benedict Cumberbatch as he stands on top of a pile of rubble and a whole in a building that is shaped in the Starfleet insignia. The image is echos the plot synopsis of "an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis." Its actually a pretty cool looking and unlike any Star Trek poster released before. A nine minute preview of the film will premiere with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey IMAX 3D on December 14th while the teaser trailer will be released on the same day with the other non-IMAX 3D versions of The Hobbit. The trailer will presumably be released on line too but no information on exactly when.
